Professional Profile

Nicko Strawbridge-Smith is the founder and director of Stonesthrow. Before becoming a qualified stone conservator, Nicko spent many years learning the art of landscape gardening and stonewalling whilst living in Devon, working for GMA Landscaping.

Nicko attended Weymouth College and achieved an Fdsc in Architectural Stonework and Conservation, a Bournemouth University foundation degree course from which he graduated with a distinction. During these two years, Nicko gained specialist knowledge in the use of lime mortar and stone conservation techniques, as well as practical stone masonry, architectural history, writing historic building surveys and condition reports.

Since qualifying from Weymouth, Nicko continued developing his skills and gained experience whilst working for specialist historic building conservation companies, combined with work carried out on private residencies through to iconic structures such as Glastonbury Abbey and Clifton Suspension Bridge, before founding Stonesthrow.

We repoint, repair and replace damaged stonework using both traditional and modern conservation practices and materials.
